Are There Jaw Exercises to Help You Manage TMJ Pain?
Posted on 9/10/2019 by administrative
One of the symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorder is pain. The amount of pain an individual feels from TMJ will vary. It is not always easy to fix the problem with TMJ, but there are ways to manage the pain. Eliminating bad habits is one way and another is through exercises. Finding the right jaw exercises can help you manage the pain from TMJ. How Exercise Can HelpThe pain from TMJ is a result of the joint not functioning properly. The stress from the TMJ on the joint leads to the pain. The joint does not move the way you need and causes the jaw to work in the wrong way. If you can strengthen and relax the joint, you can help relieve some of the pain. There are two types of exercises that can help with the joint. They are relaxing and stretching exercises. Hold this for 5 to 10 seconds. Another exercise involves slowly opening your mouth as wide as you can and holding it open for 5 to 10 seconds then slowly closing the mouth. Like anything with exercise, it is best to do the exercises regularly to get the best results. You should also stop exercising if it causes more pain than you had before.
