How Your Posture Can Lead to Issues in Your Jaw
When you think about the ways that you can cause pain in your jaw, you may envision getting punched on the jaw or biting down on a hard object. You probably don't think that the way you sit, or stand can impact the way your jaw feels. The facts are very different. Your posture can lead to a problem that can impact your jaw. It is important to learn why this can happen.

Posture and Your Body

The body is a machine that has many parts. When all the parts are healthy and working together, you feel great. When one part of the body starts to misfire, you will experience different symptoms. Because your posture can impact the way the different parts of the body work together, bad posture can lead to problems.

Posture and the Jaw

It is easy to see how sitting in an uncomfortable position might cause you to experience back pain or how if you are crouching for too long your knees will ache, but it is not always easy to see how your posture can impact your jaw. The link between posture and your jaw is found in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). These are the joints that connect your jaw to your skull. When they are working properly, your jaw moves easily. When they are not working properly, there are a variety of symptoms that can occur. The problem with these joints is known as TMJ disorders.
Symptoms of TMJ disorders can range from minor jaw pain to severe headaches to difficulty talking or chewing. Posture can affect the way that you hold your jaw. If you put yourself in a position that causes the TMJ to fall out of alignment, you will begin to notice some of the symptoms. Correcting your posture can help relieve the problems associated with TMJ disorders.
