Benefits of Sedation When You Come to Our Office

Posted on 3/20/2020 by Huronia Oral Surgery Group
Benefits of Sedation When You Come to Our OfficeThere are millions of Americans who refuse to go to the dentist. Many of those Americans refuse to go to the dentist because they are afraid. In fact, there are many Americans who are having a problem with their teeth who won't visit the dentist, even if they are in pain.

If you are scared of the dentist, we have solutions for you. Let us take a moment to talk to you about how sedation can help you face your dental fears.

Types of Sedation

Depending on your level of fear, you can use a type of anesthesia that would allow you to relax and allow us to work on your teeth. If you need something to calm you down a bit when you get nervous, we may give you mild sedation, such as nitrous oxide. Nitrous oxide is a gas you breathe, and it relaxes you.

If you have a pretty significant fear of dentists, or you are having a significant amount of work done, you may need an oral sedative. The oral sedative will allow you to be aware of the procedure, but you won't remember it. We may need to give you IV sedatives if you have a serious fear of the dentist, and we may need to give you general anesthesia if you are having a complicated procedure.

Why Sedation?

Lots of people need to use sedation in order to allow us to work on their teeth and gums. If you save severe anxiety, sedation is beneficial. You might also benefit from sedation if you have a serious gag reflex, or a low tolerance to pain. If you are undergoing significant dental work, you may need to undergo anesthesia. You might also need sedation if you have a chronic condition that might make dental work difficult.

If you have questions about sedation, please don't hesitate to give us a call. We would love to relieve your anxiety about sedation, and dental visits in general.
