Best Things to Drink Following Oral Surgery

If you recently had oral surgery, it is important that you are taking care of your mouth following the procedure.

This means making sure to rinse with salt water as explained to you by your oral surgeon, and keeping up with oral hygiene during that time.

It is also important that you are doing what you can to ensure that your body is staying hydrated.

Eating and drinking are important after oral surgery, but you do need to make sure you are getting the right foods and beverages. Here are some great options for what to drink after your oral surgery.

Things to Have on Hand During Oral Surgery Recovery

Yogurt drinks are a great option for following oral surgery. They provide calories, hydration, nutrition, and calcium. All of those items can help you feel better following oral surgery, plus keep you going.

Water is also very important to drink following oral surgery. Make sure it is cool, but not too cold. It will help you remain hydrated, without causing discomfort from the extreme temperature.

You can also drink milk, as that will help you get the same basic benefits that yogurt will offer. The cool temperature can help with the swelling, while the milk itself adds in more calcium than most any other type of beverage you can get.

Smoothies are a great way to boost your nutritional intake when you aren't quite feeling up to eating. Just make sure you don't get chunky smoothies that require chewing until at least a few days following the surgery.

For more ideas on what to drink, contact our office today. They will likely tell you to drink what you can and feel up to drinking, but also remind you not to drink it through a straw. That could delay your healing, and is never advised.
