Snoring Huronia Oral Surgery Group Ontario L4N 8J6Are you snoring the night away? Snoring is characterized by loud breathing sounds while sleeping. It is a strong sound vibration caused by the flow of air as you breathe in and out. Snoring can affect anyone.

According to Sleep Education, 40% of men and 24% of women are snorers. The numbers show that both men and women are prone to having snoring problems, although it is more common in men.

Why Do You Snore?

There are many things that cause snoring. Snoring can be a symptom of a condition called sleep apnea. Having yourself evaluated is important to know the root cause of your snoring.

In some cases, the eruption of the wisdom teeth can cause snoring. If the tooth is partially erupted, this causes a flap of tissue to become infected and swollen. This is known as Pericoronitis. Because of this condition, the patient may sleep with their mouth open, leading to snoring.

Snoring is also associated with a problem in the Temporomandibular Joint, also known as TMJ. This could result in obstructive sleep apnea, which is a blockage of the airway while sleeping. This can be caused by a problem with the tongue or the misalignment of the jaw. If not addressed, snoring may worsen and lead to severe complications.

Snoring can also lead to dental problems such as dryness of the mouth and affect the flow of saliva. This can also lead to bad breath, tooth decay and mouth sores.
